Will 15 Years Old Vehicles Be Banned In Odisha?

Bhubaneswar: Over 22 lakh vehicles will be off the roads in Odisha if the policy to scarp 15-year-old and above vehicles is implemented by the Centre, said Commerce & Transport Minister Padmanabha Behera informed the Odisha Assembly on Thursday.

“A total of 22, 09,573 vehicles in the state are aged above 15 years. Of these, 11, 43,026 vehicles are plying on roads after enforcement of new Motor Vehicle Act in Odisha,,” he said in a written reply while responding to a question by BJP member from Keonjhar Mohan Charan Majhi.

The Minister later told media that the state government had no plans to ban such vehicles.

Under the Motor Vehicles Act 2019,  it is for the Centre to issue a directive banning vehicles aged above 15 years, he added.

He, however, said that the move will greatly impact revenue collected from motor vehicles.
