Will Drinking Alcohol Protect You From Coronavirus?

As panic spreads over coronavirus (COVID-19), so does misinformation on the internet. The latest being ‘drink alcohol to stay safe and kill the deadly virus’.

Busting this fake news, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has said, “No. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body.”

Spraying such substances can actually be harmful to eyes and mouth.

“Be aware that both alcohol and chlorine can be useful to disinfect surfaces, but they need to be used under appropriate recommendations,” the WHO said.

WHO recommends cleaning hands with soap water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers.

The WHO also stated that hot baths can’t prevent the disease from spreading, and also the virus can’t be transmitted through goods manufactured in China or any country reporting COVID-19 cases.
