Mumbai: The much-delayed ‘83’ has got a fresh release date. It will hit theatre screens on Christmas day.
Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Laal Singh Chaddha’ was scheduled to release on December 25. But Aamir Khan Productions announced that the film will now be released on Valentine’s Day 2022, thereby paving the way for Kabir Khan’s 83 to hit cinema halls on Christmas.
83, based on the historic World Cup-winning run of Kapil Dev-led Indian team in 1983, was initially targeted to be released in 2019-end. It was then pushed back to April 2020 and June 2021, but the COVID-19 pandemic hurt those plans.
“We welcome the decision of the administration to allow cinemas to reopen from 22nd Oct. Due to the delays faced as a result of the pandemic, we will be unable to release our film, Laal Singh Chaddha, this Christmas. We will now be releasing Laal Singh Chaddha on Valentine’s Day 2022,” read a statement shared on Instagram.
With Aamir pushing back Laal Singh Chaddha – which also stars Kareena Kapoor, Mona Singh and Naga Chaitanya and is the Hindi adaptation of Hollywood film Forrest Gump — to February 2022, the Christmas weekend will be taken over by Ranveer Singh-starrer 83.
“It’s time……….. (bat and ball, and cup emojis) 83 IN CINEMAS THIS CHRISTMAS. Releasing in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. #ThisIs83,” Ranveer posted on Instagram along with a picture from the movie.
