Bhubaneswar: With no solution to the sharing of Mahanadi river water in sight, the Mahanadi Bachao Andolan (MBA) on Saturday threatened to launch a statewide agitation.
In a press briefing, members of the outfit said the Mahanadi Water Disputes Tribunal in its 19th hearing on Saturday was not able to finalise the common information format on the contention of the Odisha government on sharing of the river water.
“While the Tribunal will complete its three-year term on February 12, it is yet to make much headway in resolving the river water sharing disputes between Odisha and Chhattisgarh. While it has not issued an interim order in favour of Odisha, it has failed to suspend the ongoing projects on the upper catchments of the river by the Chhattisgarh government,” the members added.
Stating that there is remote possibility that the Tribunal will be able to have its final verdict on the issue during its present tenure, the members threatened to start a statewide agitation.
