Bhubaneswar: Twenty-one days after the murder of a five-year-old boy at Khandagiri here, the Commissionerate Police arrested the prime accused in the case.
The accused has been identified as Tanushree Parmanik.
She was arrested on Thursday after being discharged from AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, where the woman was undergoing treatment for Schizophrenia since June 3.
Tanushree had allegedly strangulating her neighbour’s son, Sairam Patra to death on June 3. A case was registered against her under Section 302 of IPC following the incident.
Family members of the deceased alleged that Tanushree got her admitted to the hospital to evade arrest and demanded exemplary punishment for the crime.
In her statement to police, Tanushree’s five-year-old daughter, who was the sole witness to the incident, had reportedly said that her mother had strangulated Sairam in her house.
According to sources, the woman, who was reportedly having psychiatric issues, had invited the deceased to play with her daughter and then strangulated him to death. After committing the crime, she hanged herself with a saree to end her life. However, she was rescued and rushed to AIIMS-Bhubaneswar.
