Woman rescued from an abandoned house from a village in Ganjam district with severe burn injuries died at the MKCG in Berhampur last night
Berhampur: Police on Wednesday arrested a man for allegedly setting his lover on fire at Pratapur village in Odisha’s Ganjam district the previous evening.
The accused has been identified as Krushna Chandra Sahu of Goudasahi of Pratapur village under Purushottampur police limits.
Briefing the media, Purushottampur SDPO, Suryamani Pradhan said that the woman, Subhasmita Khadanga of Kalamba village of Polasara block, in her dying declaration said that she had been in a relationship with the accused since a year.
On Tuesday evening, they had a minor tiff during a conversation near an abandoned house at Patrapur village. In a fit of rage, he poured spirit on her body and threw a burning matchstick at her.
As the woman, who sustained about 90 per cent burn injuries, shouted for help, the villagers rushed to the abandoned house, rescued her and admitted her to the CHC at Purushttoampur.
Police later shifted her to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur where she succumbed to her injuries.
“On the basis of the dying declaration of the deceased, we have arrested the man who will be forwarded to the court later today,” the SDPO added.
