Bhubaneswar: A woman climbed a tree on Sunday in front of Naveen Niwas, the residence of Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, and attempted to jump down in a suspected bid to end her life.
According to sources, the woman, a resident of Bhadrak, was rescued by security personnel deployed near the Chief Minister’s residence after a brief scuffle. The woman reportedly allegedly tried to kill herself to protest against the callousness of police.
On being informed, the Airport police reached the spot and detained her.
“I have been denied justice for the last 23 years. My brother was killed when he tried to fight off a rape bid on me. I have long been tortured for being a witness in the case. Police have failed to give justice to me and now they are trying to arrest me,” she told mediapersons.
She further said that her estranged husband is yet to provide her maintenance and she and her mother are not being allowed to enter their village.
