Berhampur: A woman allegedly committed suicide after killing her minor daughter in their house in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Thursday.

According to sources, the incident took place in Balihatasahi of Sanabara village under Polasara police station in the district. The woman, identified as Manika Gouda, was staying with her husband and 5-year-old daughter Geli in their house in the village.

On finding their house locked from inside till late in the day, the villagers knocked on the main door. As there was no response for a long time, they suspected something foul and informed the police.

A police team from Polasara came to the village and broke open the main door of Manika’s house. They found both Manika and Geli hanging in a room.

The police sent the bodies for post-mortem and started investigation. The villagers said Manika and her husband used to fight over minor issues regularly.

Manika’s parents, who came to Sanabara on being informed by the police, alleged that her husband had murdered both of them and hanged them to show that they had committed suicide.
