Berhampur: A woman drowned while her sister-in-law was rescued as their boat capsized in a lake in Odisha’s Ganjam district on Friday.
According to sources, Puspa Behera and her sister-in-law Bani Behera of HUmar village under Chhatrapur block of the district had gone to a forest to collect firewood in the morning. After completing their work, they were crossing Tampara lake in a country boat to come to their house.
While the boat was midway, it overturned and the two women along with the boatman were thrown into deep water of the lake. The boatman managed to reach the land and informed the villagers who contacted the Fire Brigade at Chhatrapur.
After a long search in the lake, the Fire personnel found the body of Puspa and an unconscious Bani. They admitted Bani in the local hospital. She returned to normal condition following treatment, the source said.
