Berhampur: In an inhuman incident, a woman allegedly threw her minor daughter into a well and fled the village in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
According to sources, while the six-year-old girl, Sneharani Jena of Konkorada village under Patapur police limits in the district, was sleeping in her house on Saturday night, her mother took her to a well in the village and threw her into it.
As the girl cried for help from inside the well, some villagers rushed to the spot and brought her out. They informed Sneharani’s grandmother Sajani Jena and took the girl to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Adapada. The girl’s condition was stated to be stable.
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Sajani said, “I saw my daughter-in-law taking Sneharani out of the house. Later, I was informed by the villagers that Sneharani was inside the well and crying for help. My daughter-in-law has been missing after incident.”
Later, Sajani filed a complaint with the police who have launched a manhunt to trace the absconding mother and registered a case.
