Puri: A female journalist was allegedly assaulted by a group of servitors of Shree Jagannatha Temple near Singhadwara of the 12th century shrine in Puri on Sunday.
As per information, the incident took place when the journalist was covering the Ram Navami festival. She sustained injuries as a group of over ten temple servitors mounted an assault. A cameraman was also allegedly attacked by the servitors who took away his camera and mobile phone. Both were provided with medical treatment at a local hospital.
Following the incident, local media persons held a protest at the office of the Superintendent of Police. A formal complaint was also lodged with the police in connection with the incident.
Based on the complaint, police have registered a case and initiated an investigation into the incident.
Puri SP Vinit Agrawal told reporters that a thorough and fair investigation is being conducted and those involved in the assault would face legal action.
CCTV footage will also be examined as part of the probe and appropriate steps taken, he said.
