Woman Refuses To Lift Veil For COVID Test, Locals Beat Health Officials
Aligarh: Two health officials were seriously injured after being assaulted by locals at a COVID-19 testing centre at a village in Uttar Pradesh’s Aligarh.
The attack followed after the health officials asked some men to give space to a newly-married woman, who had refused to lift her veil for testing in front of them.
The incident was reported from Saha Nagar Saraula village in Tappal area.
According to a report in India Today, a team of health officials had gone to the village to take samples of the villagers for rapid antigen test.
Initially, everything went smoothly and the villagers cooperated with the officials. However, trouble started brewing after the bride arrived for the COVID test.
She refused to lift her veil in front of the villagers who had gathered at the testing centre. When the officials failed to convince the woman to lift her veil after several attempts, they asked some men to leave the testing room.
Offended at this, the men thrashed the health officials. They also tore official papers and snatched the testing kits.
Police said they have registered a case against some unknown persons for assaulting the health officials.
