Woman Stripped Naked & Thrashed After Son Elopes With Girlfriend; CM Promises Action

Bengaluru: A brutal assault on a woman has stirred up Karnataka. So much so that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Home Minister G Parameshwara have promised to look into the matter.

The woman was dragged out of her house, stripped naked, tied to a pole and thrashed in Belagavi on Sunday night.

What was the woman’s fault?

Well, her son had eloped with a girl.

Police said that the woman’s son was in a relationship with the girl for some time. After coming to know that their daughter had eloped, the girl’s family went to the boy’s house and dragged his mother out of the house and took revenge by assaulting her.

“A woman was stripped naked, tied to a pole and assaulted in Belgaum is extremely inhumane. This has made the whole society dizzy. Our government will not tolerate such heinous acts for any reason,” Siddaramaiah wrote on X.

“Not just Belagavi, our government is strict everywhere. No matter what offence, we’ll take stringent action against those who commit a crime,” the CM said.

“Many people have already been arrested in connection with the case. It is our full responsibility to provide justice to the aggrieved family by taking action to ensure that the culprits are punished severely,” the CM added.

According to Home minister Parameshwara, seven people directly involved in the crime have been arrested and will be produced in court soon.

The woman was rescued by police and taken to a nearby hospital where she is undergoing treatment.
