Baripada: A day after a woman teacher allegedly committed suicide, police on Sunday detained the youth against whom she had brought rape allegations.
According to police sources, Rukmini Manda was found hanging from a ceiling fan in her room in the women’s hostel of Rairangpur College in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district on Saturday.
She was working as a Physics teacher in the college on contractual basis.
Notably, Rukmini had lodged an FIR at Jharpokharia police station on October 30, alleging that she was raped by a relative from Keonjhar district.
Her family alleged that she took the extreme step because of ‘police inaction’. The accused had threatened to share photographs, purportedly showing her being raped, on social media, they added.
Jharpokharia IIC has also been transferred over negligence in initiating probing in the case, the sources added.
