Berhampur: Three days after a businessman was brutally murdered, the woman, who was set to tie the knot with him next month, consumed poison on Monday during a protest and later died in Odisha’s Ganjam district.
The woman’s death sparked tension in the area with protesters reportedly vandalising a police van. Reports said mobile phones and cameras of some journalists were snatched.
The woman was reportedly upset with police inaction after Krushna Chandra Parida, a cement businessman, was brutally thrashed to death near Hansapur under Chatrapur police station late Friday night. The two were to get married on May 13.
During a protest near Hansapur Chhak on Monday demanding the arrest of the prime accused, she consumed poison at a spot near a temple where Parida was killed. She was rushed to MKCG Medical College and Hospital, where she died.
Police suspect Parida was killed over business rivalry. The prime accused is yet to be arrested.
Locals also staged a protest on Monday by blocking the Chatrapur-Tara Tarini main road.
