Minimarg (Ladakh): A woman tourist allegedly created chaos at a checkpost in Minimarg, Ladakh, over the closure of a road.
“We are Gen Z and we are not going to tolerate this nonsense,” she is heard shouting at somebody in a video that has now gone viral.
However, instead of support, she received backlash from social media users. Some of them went to the extent of saying that they no longer wish to belong to Gen Z after such kind of behaviour.
In one video, she is seen somebody about the prolonged traffic delay and asking why tourists were being stopped. It is not known whether she was interacting with Army personnel or those from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO).
The incident reportedly took place at the Minimarg check post in Kargil, where traffic was halted for nearly five hours. The woman expressed her frustration at the delay and raised concerns about families, children, and patients allegedly being stuck in vehicles for such a long time, as reported by News18.
She alleged that traffic at the location was stopped because a VIP convoy was supposed to pass through the area. She made the Gen Z remark while recording herself on the phone. She also urged people to start their cars and leave the place.
“Hum log paise deke ghumne aate hai ya ye sab tolerate karne aate hai? Taala laga diya inhone (We come here for a trip or to tolerate such things? They have put up a lock here),” she said, alleging that no one told them why they were stopped or answered their queries.
Someone said she instigated it, in a second video of the incident. While she accepted the allegation, the woman said she won’t move from her position, adding that she would ensure this incident reaches the highest possible authorities. She further questioned why the army personnel put up locks.
A convoy was seen approaching the location in another video. In this clip, tourists were heard saying: “Nahi hatange (We won’t move).”
A few more officers then approached the woman and asked her to stop the protest and move out of the way so the convoy could pass through.
Ladakh is a sensitive area close to the border and security forces can impose road restrictions for operational and safety reasons. The reason for the road closure was not independently established from the footage.
Her efforts to gain support from netizens seems to have backfired though. People have criticised the tourist’s manner of confronting security personnel.
“At this point some other generation needs to adopt me cause I’m getting second-hand embarrassment for sharing the same generation as these clowns,” one user posted.
Another wrote: “Entitled and brat are written all over her personality.”
“So many others are standing there; not one shouted back at her for this specific line. Shows what idiots we have,” another user pointed out.
“Punishable offence!! Interfering with national security,” yet another one posted.
“Why are people becoming so arrogant? When one can’t talk calmly, it exposes them even more. When will they grow up? Hard to understand,” another one commented.
