Wonder Child: Same-Sex Couple Becomes Parents To Baby Boy They Both Carried

London: Medical science has advanced a long way, so much so that what looked impossible even some decades ago can turn into reality in this day and age.

Consider the case of Estefania and Azahara.

They became the first lesbian couple to become parents to a baby boy that they both carried.

Yes, you heard that right!

Estefania, 30, and her 27-year-old partner Azahara welcomed Derek Eloy last month.

They used an innovative fertility treatment called INVOcell to conceive.

The egg that produced Derek was fertilised in Estefania’s womb and carried by Azahara for nine months, Metro.co.uk reported.

The process, which started in March, entailed a small capsule — about the size of a thumb — containing eggs and sperm being placed inside the vagina.

The capsule was left inside the vagina for five days. Once the device was removed, the embryos were examined and selected before being placed in Azahara’s uterus.

Azahara carried the baby for nearly nine months before Derek was born through C-section on October 30 in Palma, Majorca.

The entire treatment and process cost Estefania and Azahara US dollars 5,489.
