World Cup: England Halt India’s Winning Streak
Birmingham: India’s winning streak in the ICC cricket world cup was broken by hosts England on Sunday as it defeated Virat Kohli’s side by 31 runs to keep its semi-final hopes alive.
It was a do or die match for the English side to stay in the tournament, and for India, it was all about cementing their place in the knock-out stage. In the end, it was England who got the better of the Men in Blues, having set a target of 338 runs to chase.
Despite a brilliant century from Rohit Sharma and a partnership of 138 runs with skipper Virat Kohli, Indian batsmen failed to keep the run rate in check as it spiked to over 20 runs in the final overs.
M S Dhoni was not in the best of form and Kedar Jadhav displayed little intent as the hosts restricted the Indian side to 306/5 at the end of 50 overs.
