Bhubaneswar: The Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA) Deemed to be University will host a series of discourses on Odia language, literature and culture on February 4 and 5 as part of the inaugural World Odia Language Conference beginning here on Saturday.
The programme will be jointly organised by Odisha government’s department of Odia Language, Literature & Culture, and the SOA.
The inaugural ceremony will be attended by Odisha’s Minister for Agriculture, Farmers’ Empowerment, Fisheries & Animal Resources Ranendra Pratap Swain, and well-known litterateur Rasbehari Behera.
Odia newspaper ‘Sakala’ editor Umakanta Mishra and Jagannath Das, an educationist and researcher, will be guests of honour, while SOA Vice-Chancellor Prof. Pradipta Kumar Nanda will preside over the programme.
The first day will see discourses on ‘Jagannath Culture’, ‘Ancient Odia Literature’, ‘Medieval Odia Literature’ and ‘Puranic Literary Traditions in Medieval Odia Literature’.
The second day’s discourses will be on ‘Odisha’s Tribal Culture’, ‘Odia Literature’, ‘Odia Culture’ and ‘Modern Odia Literature’.
Eminent Odia novelist, literary critic, columnist and educationist Bibhuti Patnaik will be felicitated during the concluding session on February 5.
