Bhubaneswar: On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day on Monday, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik praised media persons in Odisha for “risking their lives” to provide reliable information during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The CM tweeted, “Warm greetings to journalists & media persons on World Press Freedom Day. Commend their commitment to provide reliable and verified information during COVID-19 pandemic, often risking their lives.”
A day earlier on Sunday, Naveen had approved a proposal to declare working journalists in the state as frontline COVID warriors.

World Press Freedom Day is observed every year on May 3. According to the UNESCO, the day underscores the need for governments and people across the world to “respect their commitment to press freedom and is also a day of reflection among media professionals about issues of press freedom and professional ethics”. This year, the theme for World Press Freedom Day is “Information as a Public Good”.
