Bhubaneswar: This year, movie buffs had a box full of surprises as besides the new movies, some of the iconic Bollywood superhits were also re-released in theatres.
From the iconic Salman-Shah Rukh starrer ‘Karan Arjun’ to the gripping tale of ‘Tumbbad,’ here is a list of Bollywood movies that made their way back to theatres this year.
Karan Arjun
Directed by Rakesh Roshan, the Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan-starrer ‘Karan Arjun’ was re-released globally on November 22, this year. Ahead of the film’s re-release, Rakesh Roshan said, “I’m curious to see whether today’s generation believes in such a story or not. If they like the film, it will mean that the generation hasn’t changed.”
Tumbbad
The horror-thriller ‘Tumbbad’, which re-released on September 13, shattered its previous box-office records during its re-run. Directed by Rahi Anil Barve and co-produced by Sohum Shah, the movie surpassed the opening day collections of classics like ‘Sholay’ and ‘Mughal-e-Azam.’
Jab We Met
Starring ex-flames Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor, the romantic drama ‘Jab We Met’ was re-released on Valentine’s Day, this year. The film brought lovebirds to theaters once again, making the experience nostalgic for fans.
Gangs of Wasseypur
Directed by Anurag Kashyap, the crime drama ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ returned to theatres on August 30. Recalling the film’s journey, Nawazuddin had told ANI, “I never thought Gangs of Wasseypur would become a cult film. But watching it at Cannes, I felt the magic of Anurag’s creation.”
Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein
‘Rehnaa Hai Terre Dil Mein’, the romantic drama featuring R.Madhavan and Dia Mirza was re-released on August 30. Talking about the film’s initial slow performance, R. Madhavan told ANI, “I remember being heartbroken. But little did I realize it would become a classic later.”
Rockstar
Ranbir Kapoor’s musical drama ‘Rockstar’ re-released in theatres on May 17, this year. Directed by Imtiaz Ali, the movie revolves around a college student Janardhan, who desperately seeks inspiration for the musician inside him. Although heartbreak helps him reach his goal, it also leads him to self-destruction.
‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,’ ‘Dil To Pagal Hai, ‘Chak De! India’
The Shah Rukh Khan starrer three blockbuster movies ‘Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge,’ ‘Dil To Pagal Hai,’ and ‘Chak De! India’ re-released in PVR and INOX cinema chains from January 19-22.
