Yearender 2021: When They Found Themselves In Legal Trouble

2021 has been full of surprises. The entertainment industry has seen it all this year. From grand weddings, sudden demises to shocking arrests. Celebrities have grabbed headlines for good, bad and ugly reasons.

Let’s take a look down at all the famous people who landed in a legal mess:

Kangana Ranaut
Actress Kangana Ranaut has spun a web of controversies around herself. She tweeted about every issue from Bollywood to politics so much so her account was permanently suspended for violating their hateful conduct and abusive behaviour policy, after the repeated tweets on West Bengal post-poll violence.

She has now shifted to Instagram, but what got her in legal troubles were:
-AAP leader Preethi Menon files a complaint regarding “Azadi” comment on Congress on November 11.

– The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) has filed a complaint against the actor Kangana for making derogatory remarks against the farmers and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on social media on November 20.

Raj Kundra
On July 19, businessman and actor Shilpa Shetty’s husband was arrested, after a 5-month long investigation for being a conspirator in producing pornography illegally. While he is accused of creating and distributing pornographic content via various OTT platforms, both Shilpa Shetty and Raj Kundra have denied the allegation, claiming that it was just erotica. According to the police, these videos were recorded in a bungalow that was rented on the outskirts of Mumbai.  He was granted bail on September 20.

Aryan Khan
On October 3, Aryan Khan was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) following a raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. Though Aryan personally was not found in possession of any banned drugs, he had to spend more than three weeks at Arthur Raod Prison before being granted bail on October 28. However, the bail formalities took a bit longer to complete and he was released on October 30.

Munwar Faruqui
Comedian Munnar was arrested by Madhya Pradesh police on January 1. The complaint was made by BJP MLA Malini Gaud stating that his comedy act has hurt religious sentiments. Faruqui finally got bail after spending 8 weeks in jail. Later many of his shows in Bangalore and Mumbai were cancelled after members of Bajrang dal threatened to burn down the venue.

Vir Das
Popular comedian/actor Vir Das got into legal trouble after he posted a clip of his monologue from his act at Washington’s Kennedy centre. A BJP spokesperson filed a complaint, accusing him of vilifying the country in a foreign land. His monologue famously known now as “Two Indias” shows the two contrasting sides of the country while mentioning all the controversial topics. He casually points out the irony and hypocrisy in the actions versus words of the people of India. Ironically enough, he received support as well as hate from people of the “Two Indias”.
