Lucknow: At a time when Opposition parties are up in arms against the Election Commission of India (ECI) for alleged vote theft, and are demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) over irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that names of more than one crore of Hindus were missing from the voter lists.
Speaking at the BJP state executive committee meeting on Friday, Yogi urged party workers to remain vigilant over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
Claiming that the names of 1.27 crore Hindus were missing from the electoral rolls, Yogi stressed the need to ensure that all eligible voters were included.
The Uttar Pradesh CM said the deletions were weakening the BJP’s position in 28 urban local body constituencies. He argued that Uttar Pradesh should have more than 16 crore voters, against the current electorate of approximately 13 crore.
He pointed out that 66 lakh people whose names figure in the panchayat electoral rolls were missing from Assembly constituency voter lists.
He further said that names of 55 lakh beneficiaries of government welfare schemes were allegedly absent from electoral rolls, and around 4.5 lakh people in the 18-19 age group were also missing from the lists.

Yogi instructed BJP workers to coordinate with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and ensure that all eligible voters be included in the voters lists, and called for regular reviews of the exercise.
He also directed MPs, MLAs and party office-bearers to ensure that Hindu voters are included in the electoral rolls.
Over 2.04 crore voters were removed from UP’s electoral rolls following the SIR exercise.
Assembly election in UP is scheduled to be held in February-March, 2027.
