New Delhi: BJP MP and actor Kangana Ranaut has criticised the ongoing ‘Cockroach Janta Party’ (CJP) protest near Parliament, questioning the manner in which the party has chosen to voice its demands.

Speaking to the media during the Monsoon Session on Monday, Kangana said Parliament is meant for debate and discussion, asserting that no group can “arm-twist the government” into taking decisions.

“Our Parliamentary sessions are meant specifically for us to discuss all issues in an extensive and detailed manner,” Kangana said.

Explaining that Parliament provides a platform to raise relevant questions, she added, “Creating a ruckus, causing disruptions, and protesting in this manner is not right. The people have elected a government, and it is their right to decide how they will run that government. If you feel so strongly, you should stand for election yourself. You cannot arm-twist the government into deciding who to sack and who to retain; this kind of arm-twisting is not acceptable. Gradually, everyone will seek refuge in the Bharatiya Janata Party and the Sanatan culture because this is our own culture, whereas everything else has been borrowed from the rest of the world.”

Tensions escalated at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Monday as the Cockroach Janta Party launched its ‘Chalo Sansad’ protest march amid a heavy security presence.

Led by CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, the march took place despite the Delhi Police denying permission for the demonstration and putting extensive security arrangements in place around Parliament.

Veteran actor Shabana Azmi visited Delhi’s Jantar Mantar on Sunday, July 19, to show her support for protesters demanding the resignation of Dharmendra Pradhan.

Her appearance at the protest came days after she publicly voiced her support for climate activist Sonam Wangchuk, who joined the Cockroach Janta Party-led movement and began an indefinite hunger strike on June 28.

Actors Prakash Raj and Poonam Pandey were also among the celebrities spotted at the protest site.

Earlier, several celebrities, including Soni Razdan, Zeenat Aman, Abhay Deol, Sonakshi Sinha, Omi Vaidya, Imran Khan, Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah, took to social media to express their support for Sonam Wangchuk and the protesters’ hunger strike.
