Berhampur: A young girl was allegedly stoned to death by her boyfriend during a quarrel over a trivial matter in Ganjam district on Friday.
According to sources, the girl, belonging to Sapanchua village under Khunta police station, had gone to her relative’s house in Raidihi village under Kaptipada police limits. Her boyfriend, identified as Munu Tudu of Basipitha village, had also accompanied her.
On Friday morning, while the girl had gone to take bath in a river, she had an argument with Munu over unconfirmed matter. The verbal duel led to physical assault between the two. During the fight, Munu hit the girl with a stone.
Following the incident, the villagers rushed the girl, who sustained critical injury on head, to the local hospital where she was declared brought dead.
On being informed, police went to Raidihi and sent the girl’s body for post-mortem. Munu, who had suffered injury in the fight, was treated at a hospital and later, detained by police.
Police have registered a case and further investigation is on.
