Bhubaneswar: A young man was found dead with multiple injury marks near a canal in Pahala area on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar on Wednesday morning, prompting his family to allege that he was murdered.
The deceased, identified as Prabhat Behera of Anantapur village, was reportedly running a business of supplying construction materials. His body was found near the canal embankment by local residents. Deep injuries to his head and face raised
suspicions of foul play.
After receiving information, a police team visited the spot and launched an investigation. A plastic pipe and a broken liquor bottle were recovered from the scene, while Prabhat’s scooter was found parked a short distance away.
While the exact cause of death will be ascertained only after post-mortem examination, investigators suspect that the youth may have been assaulted before his death. Police have sent the body for autopsy and are collecting evidence from the crime scene.
Prabhat’s family, however, alleged that he was murdered and that his body was dumped near the canal. His mother, Pratima Behera, demanded strict action against those responsible.
Family members said Prabhat was involved in the supply of sand and construction materials. He had left home late on Tuesday night in connection with work but failed to return. His body was found the following morning.
The family further claimed that Prabhat frequently had disputes with another supplier over payment-related issues
Investigation is underway and further details are awaited.
