Youth Arrested For Alleged Murder Of Friend In Odisha’s Jharsuguda
Jharsuguda: A month after the alleged murder of a youth in the town, police have arrested the accused from Rourkela.
Speaking to the mediapersons on Sunday, Jharsuguda SP Bikash Chandra Das said the accused, identified as Dilip Sa, a resident of the town, has confessed to the murder of his friend Bipin Sa during interrogation by police after his arrest.
Dilip, a BTech pass-out, told the police that he had taken a loan of Rs 4 lakh for his marriage from Bipin in 2019. But he could not repay the loan as his brother did not give him his share of the paternal property from which he had planned to clear the dues.
With no sources to get the amount, Dilip plotted to murder his friend with whom he was working in a wholesale shop of mobile phones. On June 15, Bipin and Dilip had gone to Bagadihi and Bamara areas on their bikes to collect money from the people who had purchased the phones from their shop.
After collecting Rs 1.9 lakh, they returned to Jharsuguda at night. Dilip kept his bike at his home and went with Bipin to the shop. On the way, Bipin stopped his bike near a puffed rice mill to attend to the nature’s call. After returning, while he was about to start the bike, Dilip slit Bipin’s throat with a knife killing him on the spot. Later, he took the cash from Bipin and fled to Rourkela.
During investigation, police traced Dilip in a hotel in Rourkela and arrested him from there on Saturday night.
“Police have seized Rs 1,00,500 from Dilip and the knife used in the crime from near a pond,” the SP said, adding that the accused has been forwarded to the court.
