Youth Arrested For Impregnating Minor Girl In Odisha’s Ganjam

Berhampur: Police have arrested a youth for allegedly impregnating a minor girl on false promise of marriage in Odisha’s Ganjam district.

According to the police complaint filed by the girl, B Tarun of Dasmantpur village under Gunupur police station in Rayagda had developed a relationship with her around three years back. The girl, belonging to a village under Gurandi police station in Ganjam district, is a relative of Tarun. She was a minor at the time.

As their relationship progressed, Tarun promised to marry the girl and established physical relation with her. In the process, she became pregnant. On coming to know about her pregnancy, the girl’s family proposed to Tarun’s family for marriage. But Tarun and his family turned down the proposal.

Meanwhile, the girl has crossed 18 years and become 7-month pregnant. Since Tarun’s family did not budge from their stand and the pregnancy could not be aborted, the girl lodged a complaint at Gurandi police station against Tarun.

Following investigation into the complaint, the police arrested Tarun and forwarded him to court on Monday.
