According to sources, the victim, identified as Pranab Mohanty of Hundula village under Keonjhar Sadar police station in the district, in an inebriated condition had gone to the house of Bhuban Das in the same village. Pranab abused Bhuban’s family over an old issue and a heated exchange of words ensued between the two.
During the quarrel, Pranab reportedly assaulted Bhuban’s family members. Enraged over this, Bhuban’s family members set Pranab on fire. While Pranab died on the spot, the attackers are absconding.
On being informed, a police team went to the village and seized the burnt body. They sent the body for post-mortem and registered a case on the basis of the complaint filed by Pranab’s sister.
