Bhadrak: A youth from West Bengal sustained critical burn injuries while he was attempting to commit suicide by jumping from a high voltage tower in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Wednesday.
According to sources, the youth, identified as Bamapada from the neighbouring state, climbed the 33-KV power tower at DI Square in Dhamra town in the morning. Some locals spotted him and informed the police.
Soon a crowd gathered there and talked to Bamapada to convince him to get down safely. He told them that he wanted to end his life. The crowd told him that they would try to resolve his problems and appealed to him to climb down from the tower which supply very high voltage.
Before the police could arrive at the spot, Bamapada started climbing down. But he came in contact with alive wire and lost consciousness. He kept hanging on the tower for some time and then fell down from a height of 50 feet.
Meanwhile, a team from Dhamra police station reached there and sent him in an ambulance to the community health centre at Basudevpur. His condition was stated to be critical.

Bamapada, who used to work as a driver, had stopped going to work for the last few days. He seemed to be mentally disturbed and was moving here and there, the sources said.
