Cuttack: A youth was allegedly shot dead in broad daylight at Press Chhak under Madhupatna police limits in Odisha’s Cuttack on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Soumyaranjan Jena aka Rinku, who was known to be a good cricketer.
According to sources, the incident took place when a group of friends had gathered for a feast. He was shot from close range following a heated exchange and suffered bullet wounds in the stomach. He was rushed to SCB Medical Hospital and College, where doctors declared him dead.
A neighbour told the media that Rinku was probably tortured before being shot as he had sustained serious injuries in his leg and feet. “We suspect he was dragged along the road and it was a pre-planned murder,” he alleged, adding that it is unlikely for him to have any enemies.
Police have sealed the house where the incident allegedly took place and cordoned off the area.
