Berhampur: In a tragic mishap amid Diwali celebrations, a young man was killed in a powerful explosion while reportedly making firecrackers at a village in Khallikote area of Odisha’s Ganjam district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place at Kaithada village under the jurisdiction of Khallikote police station in the early hours of Monday. The deceased has been identified as Pintu Palei of the same village.
Soon after the blast, Pintu was rushed in a critical state to a nearby hospital. However, he succumbed to injuries.
Locals said Pintu was illegally making firecrackers on the terrace of his house to earn some extra income during Diwali festivities. The explosion was so severe that his limbs were blown off. The asbestos roof also collapsed with debris falling at a distance. Several household articles were also gutted.
Hearing the loud noise, relatives and villagers rushed to save him and alerted the police. Pintu was immediately rushed to hospital but doctors declared him dead.
