Bhubaneswar: A youth was killed and his parents were critically injured during a violent clash over a land dispute at a village in Odisha’s Kendrapada district.
As per preliminary information, the incident took place on Saturday night at Narilo village under the jurisdiction of Kendrapada Sadar police station.
The deceased has been identified as Upendra Ojha. The incident was triggered by a long-standing dispute over land within the extended family.
Sources said fresh conflict surfaced when one Rajkishore Ojha reportedly entered into an argument with his nephew Upendra over the issue. The verbal altercation soon escalated and turned violent.
Police sources said Rajkishore Ojha, along with his wife and son, allegedly attacked Upendra using various weapons. It was alleged that Rajkishore hit Upendra with a crowbar, inflicting critical injuries. Upendra’s parents, Sanjukta and Saroj Kanta, also sustained grievous injuries in the attack.
All three injured persons were shifted to a hospital where Upendra succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He is reportedly survived by his wife and a one-year-old daughter. The condition of the two injured family members is reported to be critical.
Police said investigation into the incident is in progress and appropriate steps will be taken based on the findings.
