Cuttack: A youth died after his throat was slit by the banned glass-coated kite string (manja) when he was going to his father-in-law’s place at Pirbazaar in Cuttack city on his bike, on Sunday afternoon.
The deceased has been identified as Jayant Samal of Bhayarpur.
According to sources, the accident took place when the victim with his wife riding pillion was heading towards Peerbazaar around 4 pm. The manja got entangled in his neck and the duo fell off the vehicle. A profusely bleeding Jayant was then rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead.
His family has lodged a police complaint at Jagatpur police station.
“The manja has once again claimed a life. We urge the police to take necessary action against who using them for flying kites and also those engaged in selling them,” demanded a relative.
Notably, the use of manja and other synthetic threads for flying kites is banned in Cuttack.
