Dhenkanal: A youth was allegedly shot dead by unidentified miscreants in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district.
The incident reportedly took place at Karigar Sahi under the jurisdiction of Dhenkanal Town Police Station late on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Maheswar Behera alias Titu.
A per information, the young man was attacked a group of miscreants around 11 pm while returning home after work. The attackers suddenly opened fire at him near his house and the youth fell from his vehicle. The miscreants then dragged him to the roadside and allegedly smashed his head with a stone in a brutal manner.
Sources said Titu’s wife came out of the house after hearing the gunfire but the attackers had fled. Locals immediately rescued him and rushed him to the Dhenkanal District Headquarters Hospital (DHH), where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
The wife of the deceased alleged that the same miscreants had attacked Titu and fractured his hand recently.
An investigation has been launched by the police into the incident. Past enmity is suspected to have led to the brutal murder. Two persons have been taken into custody in connection with the incident. They are being questioned and probe is underway, police said.
