Baripada: A youth was allegedly stripped naked, beaten, and paraded along National Highway-220 in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district, following accusations of a romantic relationship with a minor girl from another community.
The incident occurred on January 2 under Bahalda police limits when the victim travelled by car to meet the girl, and the duo was spotted by her relatives, who had previously filed a police complaint against him, leading to a confrontation. A mob soon gathered and allegedly vandalised his vehicle, tied his hands, assaulted him brutally, and forced him to march publicly while the act was filmed, with the video subsequently going viral on social media.
Following which, The youth’s family met Mayurbhanj Collector Hema Kanta Say to demand a thorough probe into the public humiliation and assault, and submitted complaints to the Superintendent of Police, the Odisha Human Rights Commission, and the Orissa High Court.
While two persons were arrested on Thursday in connection with the incident, IIC Bhaskar Pradhan said that efforts were underway to identify the other suspects.
