Bargarh: Tension ran high in Bheden block of the district on Tuesday after the irate people of Burda village pelted stones at the police station.
According to sources, a youth of Burda village, Giridhari Nayak was allegedly murdered in July this year. Following the incident, the villagers had urged the district collector and SP to immediately arrest the killer. But there was no progress in the case. Protesting this, the villagers staged a demonstration in front of the Bhden Police Station on Tuesday.
However, the situation turned violent as the villagers did not get any assurance from the police. Protesting the inaction of the police, the irate villagers tried to barge into the police station. As the police resisted them, they pelted stones at them and damaged police vehicles. Some mediapersons present at the spot were also injured.
As the situation went out of control, police resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the irate villagers.
