Today (March 19) is World Sleep Day. Observed on the Friday before Spring Equinox every year, it is organised by the World Sleep Day Committee of the World Sleep Society and aims to lessen the burden of sleep problems on society through better prevention and management of sleep disorders. The first World Sleep Day was observed on March 14, 2008.
‘Regular Sleep, Healthy Future’ is the slogan for this year.
Despite quotes such as “Man should forget his anger before he lies down to sleep.” – Mahatma Gandhi and “Sleep is the best meditation.” – Dalai Lama, the fact is that sleep comes at a premium in these high-pressure times, when, besides financial constraints, we also have to fight the pandemic to find our way on the road to success.
Ironically, ‘sleeping less’ is often the success mantra of many celebrities and world leaders. Here is a list of celebrities who hardly sleep and among the toppers is none other than our very own Prime Minister, Narendra Modi.
Narendra Modi
At 70, it is believed that he sleeps for less than 4 to 5 hours a day.

Known to us as the ‘Friends’ actor, she has spoken about her sleep issues time and again. Practicing yoga and keep her electronic gadgets off at night have helped her a great deal.
Lady Gaga
Known for her spectacular performances and chart-topping songs, Lady Gaga often has sleepless nights because of her work and passion as a musician.
Shah Rukh Khan
It is unimaginable that his off-screen and on-screen energy is actually a result of ‘hardly sleeping’. King Khan has often spoken about how less he sleeps.
Mindy Kaling
Juggling a busy career as a TV producer and writer with being a mom, Mindy Kaling has her hands full and probably wishes she could get more sleep at night.
