Under-construction flyover at Bomikhal collapses killing one, several injured
Bhubaneswar: A portion of a flyover under construction at Bomikhal here collapsed around 1 pm on Sunday. One death has been confirmed so far while several persons are still trapped under the debris.
According to reports, a father-daughter duo on a motorcycle was crushed under the falling chunk of the bridge. The man, identified as Satya Patnaik (40) of Jharpada, died on the spot while the girl sustained grievous injuries. She was admitted to Capital Hospital here along with 15 others, mostly labourers and commuters, injured in the bridge collapse. The girl was later shifted to AIIMS and her condition is stated to be critical.
Around 40 labourers were working on the structure at the time of the incident, reports added.
Fire department personnel are engaged in rescue operations and sniffer dogs pressed into service to locate the trapped persons.
According to passersby, around six persons were rescued from under the debris.
Police Commissioner Y B Khurania said, “Rescue operation is going on at full swing. The contractors will be arrested soon and held responsible for this criminal negligence.”
