Sambalpur: More than 10 passengers were injured, many of them critically, after the tourist vehicle in which they were travelling overturned on the Sambalpur-Rairakhol road near Kansar.
The tourist bus carrying 17 passengers from Bhubaneswar to Sambalpur rammed into a bridge safety wall after hitting a pole and flipped on Friday night. Locals alerted emergency services after spotting the crash.
According to sources, the bus was transporting tourists from the capital city to Sambalpur. Some passengers alleged that the driver may have fallen asleep causing the severe accident. The tourists onboard suffered injuries of varying degrees due to the impact of the collision.
Seven injured passengers are being treated at the District Headquarters hospital at Sambalpur while 3 others have been shifted to Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) at Burla owing to the severity of their injuries. While some of the injured are under medical care for fractures and other trauma, others have been kept under observation.
