Bhubaneswar: In a significant achievement for Odisha’s education sector, ten schools from the state have been selected for National Awards and Recognitions under Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SHVR) 2025–26, an initiative spearheaded by the Department of School Education & Literacy (DoSEL) under the Ministry of Education.
The SHVR framework evaluates schools on multiple parameters, including sanitation and hygiene (WASH facilities), access to safe drinking water, greenery and biodiversity conservation, waste management, and climate-resilient practices. It aims to transform schools into models of cleanliness, sustainability, and environmental responsibility while fostering child-friendly learning environments.
Out of 20 schools from Odisha nominated for the national-level evaluation, ten have secured the prestigious recognition. The selected schools include Khairbani Ashram School (Mayurbhanj), Hatiasila Primary School (Nayagada), Gobindapur Primary School (Jagatsinghpur), Binapani Upper Primary School (Kendrapada), Fulkahanlei Nodal High School (Kendujhar), Chandrasekhar Dev Government High School (Khordha), Sagarpali Government Middle High School (Sonpur), Mahendra Tanaya Ashram School (Gajapati), B M Pattanaik Government Upper Primary School (Sambalpur), and Rabanaju Primary School (Kandhamal).
Each winning school will receive a cash award of Rs 1 lakh, a certificate of recognition, and a three-day exposure visit to another state for learning and sharing best practices in sustainability.
At the national level, a total of 191 schools from 29 States and Union Territories have been chosen for this honour. The programme builds on earlier efforts like the Swachh Vidyalaya Puraskar and encourages widespread adoption of eco-friendly practices across the country.
