Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has filed cases against the owners of 100 business establishments for failure to display signboards in Odia language, the state Assembly was informed on Tuesday.
The information was shared by Labour and ESI Minister Ganesh Ram Singhkhuntia while replying to a question by BJD MLA Prasanna Acharya in the House.
Out of 2,852 establishments inspected across the state, 1,606 were found to have violated the Odia signboard mandate. Show-cause notices were issued to all violators, and 100 of them now face formal legal proceedings under the Odisha Shops and Commercial Establishments Act.
As per the data shared by the Minister, Khurda district recorded the highest number of cases, with 38 businesses booked. Additionally, 237 establishments in Jharsuguda and 201 in Khurda were served notices for non-compliance.
The enforcement drive is part of the state’s broader initiative to preserve and promote the Odia language, ensuring its visibility in commercial and public domains.
