Bhubaneswar: Eleven cities and towns of Odisha, including the state capital Bhubaneswar and the pilgrim town of Puri, will be honoured by the central government for their performance in Swachh Bharat Mission in the urban areas.
Representatives from these places, selected as winners, will be felicitated during the award ceremony slated to be graced by President Droupadi Murmu in New Delhi on October 1, official sources said.
The results of Azadi@75 Swachh Sarvekshan 2022 will be formally declared at the event, to be graced by the President. Apart from Bhubaneswar and Puri, the other winner cities and towns are Bargarh, Basudevpur, Bellaguntha, Bijepur, Binika, Berhampur, Chikiti, Junagarh and the port town of Paradip.
The state government has been asked to send an appropriate delegation from each of the awarded cities to attend the ceremony. Four representatives for each awardee city may go up to the stage to receive the award.
To commemorate the first anniversary of the launch of SBM-Urban 02 and as part of a fortnight-long celebration of Swachh Amrit Mahotsav, the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is organizing a series of workshops and events between September 29 and October 1.
On September 29 and 30, a capacity-building initiative will be held in Delhi. The initiative titled ‘Swachh Shehar – Samvaad and Tech Exhibition’ will comprise high-quality technical and administrative discussions specially curated around topics related to the management of municipal solid waste and liquid waste. The two-day event will be followed by the grand finale on October 1.
