Bhubaneswar: With this year’s biggest spike of 4851 new COVID-19 cases, 11 districts in Odisha slipped into the red zone with over 1000 active cases on Wednesday.
According to the Health Department sources, Khurda has the highest active cases of 5,021 followed by Sundargarh (4,894), Nuapada (1,931), Cuttack (1,675), Bargarh (1,637), Sambalpur (1,599), Kalahandi (1,425), Puri, (1,313), Balangir (1,312), Jhasuguda (1300) and Nabarangpur (1,025).
Eight of these districts border Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand.
Among the 4851 fresh infections reported in the last 24 hours, 703 cases are from Khurda followed by Sundargarh (516), Nuapada (486), Bargarh (318), Cuttack (304) and Jharsuguda (290).

With 38,548 samples tested for COVID-19, the daily positivity rate in Odisha has gone up to 12.58 per cent.
The state also saw five fatalities for the second consecutive on Wednesday.
