Bhubaneswar: Tension erupted at Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday after an 11-year-old boy died during treatment, with his family accusing doctors and staff of medical negligence, including the administration of a wrong injection.
The deceased has been identified as Sai from Kalupada village in the Tangi area of Khurda district.
According to sources, The boy fell from his bicycle on Monday and subsequently complained of illness. His family first took him to a nearby hospital at Chandapur. He was later shifted to the state-run facility as his condition worsened. However, he passed away during the treatment.
Grieving family members alleged that incorrect treatment by doctors with a staff nurse administering the wrong injection led to his death. Unable to accept the sudden loss, relatives gathered outside the hospital’s postmortem centre, leading to a tense situation on the premises.
Police were immediately deployed to maintain law and order and prevent any escalation.
Congress leader and former Jatani MLA Suresh Kumar Routray visited the hospital and demanded a judicial inquiry into the incident. He called for accountability and a thorough investigation to establish the facts surrounding the alleged negligence.
