Puri: Raising security concerns amid Ratna Bhandar inventory process in Shree Jagannath Temple in Odisha’s Puri, two drones were seen hovering over the 12rth century shrine in the pilgrim town.
Following the incident, police swung into action and detained two persons for allegedly flying the drones over the temple.
Sources said the two operated the drones from the terrace of a building at the Mati Mandap Sahi of the town.
As per information, servitors of the temple spotted the two drones flying in the restricted airspace of Jagannath temple while tying new flags atop the shrine and informed the police.
After receiving information, police deactivated the drones and launched a search for their operators. Many devotees as well locals expressed concern over the incident as security has been tightened in and around the temple for inventory of the Ratna Bhandar.
It may be noted that Shree Jagannath temple and its immediate periphery in the seaside town have been declared as a no-fly zone by the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) to create a security ring around the shrine.
However, some people used to operate drones in the restricted airspace in violation of the norms.
The drone movement near the temple sparked concern among devotees and officials. The timing of the incident, coinciding with the ongoing Rathna Bhandar inventory, caused grave concern about security.
