Bhadrak: Normal life was thrown out of gear in Bhadrak district on Monday following a 12-hour dawn-to-dusk bandh, demanding a medical college and hospital in the district.
All trading and business establishments and educational institutions remained closed while vehicular traffic came to a grinding halt.
The bandh call given by Zilla Unnayan Sangharsa Samiti, is being supported by the BJD, BJP, Congress and the civil societies.
The members of the Samiti picketed at the Bhadrak railway station and detained the Bhadrak-Palasa DMU.
The Samiti had requested the people to observe the bandh in a peaceful and democratic manner and asked them not to burn tyres on the road as a mark of protest.
