Rourkela: In a shocking incident, a college girl allegedly attempted self-immolation in Lanjiberna area in Odisha’s Sundargarh district by setting herself on fire in the early hours of Saturday.
As per information, the Plus-III second-year student sustained critical burns injuries after the attempt and was was rushed to the Ispat General Hospital (IGH) in Rourkela. Doctors have stated that she has suffered nearly 90 per cent burns and her condition was highly critical.
Sources said police have detained a male friend of the girl for questioning in connection with the incident. However, the exact motive behind the girl’s extreme step is yet to be ascertained. A thorough investigation is underway to uncover what led to the tragedy, a senior police official said.
Family members of the girl have alleged that she had received threatening phone calls before the incident and demanded a thorough probe.
