Gajapati: The dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the United Action Committee, demanding sub-division status to G. Udayagri, affected normal life in three blocks of Gajapati district on Monday.
Owing to the strike, most government offices, educational institutions and business establishments remained closed, while vehicles stayed off the road at Nuapada, G. Udayagiri and Rayagad blocks in the district.
The agitators staged blockades at several places including Mahendragada, R. Udayagiri, Chelligada and Khajuripada to press for their demand.
“G. Udayagiri fulfils all criteria for the sub-divisional status. Though we have approached the district administration several times over the demand, no step has been taken,” a protestor said. The agitation will be intensified if the district administration fails to consider the demand, they added.
