Bhubaneswar: A 12 year-old boy drowned to death in a canal in Bhubaneswar on Friday while reportedly filming a reel.
The deceased minor has been identified as Prakash Sethi of Damana village.
According to sources, Prakash along with six other friends went to the canal to take a bath, ignoring locals’ warnings about strong currents due to heavy rainfall. The boys were attempting to record a slow-motion video of jumping into the canal. While others returned to the bank, Prakash slipped into deeper water and couldn’t swim back.
When he was nowhere to be found, onlookers raised an alarm and alerted Fire Service personnel, who immediately arrived at the scene and started a search operation. Prakash was found unconscious at the far end of the canal bank and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
A Fire Service personnel told the media that the boy had suffered major inflammation and fluid buildup in the lungs. “We tried to revive him with CPR but he remained unresponsive,” he added.
